This paper presents a method for optimising concrete mixture proportions according to the required performances supplemented with a few case studies. Since various qualities are usually required from concrete, the proportioning problems are categorised as multi-criteria optimisation problems. The concept of Pareto optimality was considered to derive the optimum solution and was applied to a genetic algorithm. Two proportioning problems were solved by the genetic algorithm - one of delayed setting time and high flowability in hot weather and the other of accelerated setting and high flowability in cold weather.
