Influence of the hydrophilicity of the base substrate to thermoresponsive cell adhesion / detachment behavior and its surface properties was examined. PAAm was grafted onto TCPS surfaces by EB irradiation prior to grafting PIPAAm. PIPAAm was then grafted onto PAAm-TCPS by EB irradiation. PIPAAm grafted PAAm-TCPS surfaces with 5.0-10.0wt% in feed showed cell adhesion properties at 37°C, while the cells did not adhere to surfaces of PIPAAm grafted PAAm-TCPS with more than 16.5wt% feed AAm. These results show that the grafted PAAm significantly influences properties of the grafted PIPAAm.
