Distribution of K+ Cs+ ions in the alkali layer of (K+, Cs+)-β-ferrite

Distribution of K+ and Cs+ ions in (K+ Cs+)-β-ferrite with β-alumina structure was determined by the structure refinement. The site occupancies of K+ and Cs + ions were determined for (K0.74Cs0.43)- and (K0.64Cs0.53)-β-ferrite. It was confirmed that Cs+ ions dominantly occupied Beevers Roth (BR) sites and that K + ions occupied both BR and mid-Oxygen (mO) sites. On the other hand, K+ ions in (K0.34Cs0.82)-β-ferrite, which revealed the conduction minimum in ionic conduction, occupied only mO sites. Based on the site occupancies, K+ and Cs+ ions were distributed to the alkali layers in unit cells containing BR site and mO site. On the arrangement of unit cells containing K+ ion(s) or Cs + ion, two possibilities were suggested.
