Conventional drug transport was demonstrated using rapid deswelling of graft-type gels. A novel releasing mechanism was designed for therapeutic systems using the gels as pumping matrix. A sharp and larger drug release rate was observed, followed by release after 25 minutes. The drug was released after convectional water outflow, and almost all drug incorporated within the gel was released due to this rapid convectional transport.
