PIPAAm grafted coverslip was prepared using electron beam. ESCA analysis of resulting surfaces revealed that PIPAAm was succesfully grafted onto the coverslips. Initial monomer concentration significantly influenced properties of resulting PIPAAm grafted surfaces. PIPAAm grafted coverslips prepared at 5wt% monomer concentration showed cell attachment and detachment properties by temperature changes. However, cells did not adhere to PIPAAm grafted coverslips prepared at more than 40wt% concentration These results indicate that 5wt% monomer concentration should be appropriate condition for preparation of PIPAAm grafted coverslips exhibiting the intelligent properties, hi addition, the results also suggest that EB irradiation is convenient method for grafting polymers onto inorganic surfaces such glass surfaces.
