PIPAAm was grafted onto coverslips modified with MPTMS, using EB irradiation. ESCA analysis of resulting surfaces revealed that PIPAAm was successfully grafted onto the coverslips. Initial monomer concentration significantly influenced properties of resulting PIPAAm grafted surfaces. Cells adhered to the surfaces of 4.0 nm thickness of the grafted PIPAAm layer. By contrast, PIPAAm layer with 8.0 nm thickness exhibited cell repellent surfaces. This tendency is similar to PIPAAm grafted TCPS in our previous report, although the grafted layer is extremely thinner. We discuss an influence of thickness of the grafted PIPAAm onto cell adhesion / detachment properties, comparing to PIAPAm grafted TCPS in the previous report.
