A new objective evaluation measure AWSNR, which reflects human visual characteristics, is proposed. In the measure, spatial complexity of the original picture is determined with the fractal dimension, and the human visual sensitivity for the brightness of picture is considered. Furthermore, subjective observation areas are predicted based on local complexity, local brightness and the human spatial frequency characteristics. From experimental results using 350 pictures evaluated by 30 testers, it is found that the correlation coefficient between the MOS (Mean Opinion Score) and the proposed AWSNR becomes 0.91.
