Abstract

The in situ sounding tests to evaluate liquefaction characteristics of soil deposits, including standard penetration test and cone penetration test, are described. The recent development on the use of weight sounding test is then introduced, including the estimations of relative density, SPT N-value as well as the liquefaction resistance of soils. The collection of some recent case history data on soil liquefaction triggering observed in Japan is also introduced.
