Tε* - integral analysis of fracture specimens

Abstract

Tε* integral values associated with stable crack growth in thin 2024-T3 aluminum compact (CT) specimens and A606 HSLA steel single edge notched (SEN) specimens were determined directly from the crack tip displacement field obtained by moire interferometry. The steel SEN specimen results agreed with the Tε* obtained from an elastic-plastic finite element (FE) simulation of the stable crack growth thus suggesting that for a given integration contour, Tε, Tε* can be used as a stable crack growth and a ductile fracture criteria.
