Prevention of soft-story mechanism of wooden house using continuous plywood panel system

Abstract

In this paper, we propose the new seismic system that prevents the soft-story collapse of two-story wooden houses. The seismic system has the continuous plywood panel that connects the first and the second story seamlessly at the second floor level. First, we conduct static cyclic loading test of the connection between two plywood panels and make its analysis model. Next, we carry out time-history seismic response analysis to verify the effectiveness of the proposed seismic system. It is found that the proposed system works to prevent a damage concentration and reduce the maximum story drift of two-story wooden houses.
