Abstract
We prepared Chromatography matrices having thermoresponisve polymer brush structure by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) of N- isopropylacrylamide (IPAAm) on silica beads. Retention times for steroids extended with increasing grafted PIPAAm amounts controlled by polymerizatuion times. Elution profiles of steroids on column packed with PIPAAm-grafted matrices prepared by ATRP depend largely on the column temperature. This indicates that matrices having thermoresponisve polymer brush layers would be useful for controlling strong hydrophobicity of HPLC stationary phases simply by changing column temperature.
