Preparation and properties of organic-inorganic hybrids from trimethoxy(vinyl)silane

Abstract

Polyvinylpolysilsesquioxane (PVPS) organic-inorganic hybrid gel films comprising polyethylene and siloxane backbone linkages were prepared from trimethoxy(vinyl)silane (VTS) by the simultaneous polymerization of vinyl groups and trimethoxysilyl groups. The radical polymerization of VTS was performed by diazo-type initiators to control the degree of polymerization. PVPS gel films were light yellow, transparent and homogeneous. The mechanical and heat-resisting properties correlate to both degrees of polymerization and cross linking.
