Abstract

In this study, we compared carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) and NamdTM CFRP (CFRP which includes carbon nanotube (CNT), and it was developed by NITTA CORPORATION [1]). The commercial finite element analysis (FEA) software Abaqus was used for the analysis. In the analysis, we conducted collision simulation using conventional CFRP laminate and NamdTM CFRP laminate model. We expressed the ply crack by Hashin damage theory and express the delamination by cohesive contact. In collision analysis, impactor collided with NamdTM CFRP laminate and conventional CFRP laminate, and we compared the delamination and cracks in each layer of laminate. Comparing NamdTM CFRP and conventional CFRP, the laminate of NamdTM CFRP was less damaged than the laminate of conventional CFRP. The simulated results showed that impact damage resistance is improved by CNT.
