Nanoscale featuring of graphite surface by highly charged ion impact

Abstract

We have reported that the single impact of highly charged Ar ion (Ar8+) on HOPG (highly oriented pyrolytic graphite) surface and the following electron injection onto the impact region transfer sp2 to sp3 hybridization in nanoscale, providing the drastic change of conductivity of the impact region. In the present study, we have discussed the defective structure created by Ar8+ impact and the control of material property by combination with the post treatment.
