Abstract

Owing to the increased demand for practical skills related to cyber security, skill cultivation by sharing knowledge and using actual systems is crucial. These can be provided even during online learning. This study proposed the design and construction of a hands-on training system to develop professional skills in cyber security and demonstrate its effectiveness through its operation. The system was designed for use by novice students of information security and aimed to help them acquire skills in a limited amount of time. Till July 2023, a total of 745 students and working professionals participated in the training using the training system. The training system was built on the cloud, which resulted in certain time or physical constraints on the training. However, the training system could be expanded or rendered available online according to the number of students. We evaluated the learning effectiveness of the training system through tests and questionnaires and the system was confirmed to exhibit a certain level of effectiveness in terms of learning.
