Abstract

– We performed the dissimilarity analysis between heat and momentum transports for a turbulent stripe, which is a large-scale intermittent flow structure in subcritical transitional regime, by direct numerical simulations using a spectral method of plane Couette flow. We compared the variations of statistics on the transport between turbulent stripe and uniform turbulence. A deviation (dissimilarity) between turbulent heat flux and Reynolds stress was detected in the case of uniform turbulence, while no deviation between them appear in the case of turbulent stripe. On the other hand, the mean streamwise velocity and temperature distributions were quite similar in both cases. The present results imply more efficient heat transfer than the momentum one for the turbulent stripe in comparison to the uniform turbulence in plane Couette flow.
