Abstract

A novel photorefractive ferroelectric liquid crystal material (PR-FLC) in which a photoconductive chiral dopant was incorporated was developed and it was investigated. The asymmetric energy exchange was observed in PR-FLC materials of SCE8base/Chiral-5/TNF and SCE8base/Chiral-6/TNF mixture. When FLC mixture of Chiral-6 exhibited a higher gain coefficient than Chiral-5 although the photoconductive moiety is same as that of chiral-5. The gain coefficient of PR-FLC on Chiral-6 was measured to be about 26cm-1.
