Controlled copolymerization by metal complexes [10]. Design of transition metal - Typical metal binuclear complex (unimolecular zeigler-natta catalyst) for copolymerization of ethylene and polar vinyl monomer

The copolymerization of ethylene and MMA with 1 as catalyst was carried out at 25°C for 1 h under ethylene atmosphere at 10 atm to afford white solid material. After reprecipitated by hot bromobenzene - chloroform as solvent systems, the finally obtained material showed an absorption at 1,735 cm -1 due to the C=O vibration in the IR spectrum, and signals at 3.6 and 1.0 ppm respectively assignable to OCH3 and CH3 groups in the 1H-NMR spectrum. Thus, the produced polymer was concluded to be an ethylene - MMA copolymer.
