Abstract

Salt of the earth: The first chiral, coordinate alkaline earth metal catalysts have been developed. These catalysts effectively promote catalytic asymmetric additions of ß-dicarbonyl compounds to nitroalkenes in high yields with high enantioselectivities (up to 96%).
