AR prefiltering approach to adaptive equalization

Abstract

In this paper, we propose an IIR-type adaptive equalizer using a channel estimator. It has a cascade structure of an AR prefilter and a FIR adaptive equalizer. The AR prefilter is designed using the channel impulse response estimated by the channel estimator. The AR prefiltering leads to reduction in a degree of correlation of the channel output. The LMS algorithm of the cascaded FIR adaptive equalizer provides fast convergence and small residual error. Simulation results are shown to confirm the performance of the proposed adaptive equalizer.
