Adsorption morphologies of polyethylene glycol and cationic surfactants in HCl-containing H2SO4 aqueous solutions

Abstract

We characterized the adsorption morphologies of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and cationic surfactants on gold in H2SO4 aqueous solutions in the presence and absence of Cl1 ions. The addition of Cl1 ions resulted in the formation of globular aggregates on a smooth adsorption film for PEG, whereas in the formation of wormlike adsorption aggregates for hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide.
