Accuracy verification of affordable L1 GPS and IMU

Abstract

This paper describes the results of accuracy verification test of an INS/GPS integrated navigation system consisting of an affordable L1 GPS and MEMS IMU. The authors have been developing an INS/GPS integrated navigation system for airborne gravity survey operated using a radio control helicopter. In airborne gravity survey, it is very important to detect a 3D position and attitude of gravimeter accurately. On the other hand, the system should be light and low energy consumption because of a limit of RC helicopter's payload. Therefore, we developed a prototype system using an affordable L1 GPS and MEMS IMU, conducted some experiments and estimated the accuracy.
