A model based estimation for smart meter missing readings

Abstract

Smart meters often fail to measure or transmit energy consumption data, called meter readings, owing to faulty measuring equipment or unreliable communication modules. Existing studies do not address successive and non-periodical missing meter readings. In this paper, missing readings observed at a node are estimated using circuit theory principles, leveraging voltage and current data from adjacent nodes. In a case study, the proposed method successfully estimated the missing readings over a whole day with outages and unpredictable perturbations.
